The Importance of Paper Shredding

What do you do with all the extra unused and unwanted paper lying around your home or office? Maybe you stuff it away somewhere in a drawer. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Or maybe you throw it in the regular trash can with all the other waste products or the recycling bin. The problem with this is, not only is it wasteful to send all that paper to the landfill, it’s not safe. Still not convinced? Here are some reasons why you should safely and securely dispose of your paper waste by shredding it first.

One of the main reasons to shred documents is to protect your confidential information. Identity theft is on the rise and stealing or copying physical documentation is the most common form of stolen data over other methods, including online theft. One of the simplest and easiest ways to prevent identity theft is to shred and dispose of documents that contain sensitive information. There are even federal and state laws that require businesses to properly dispose of their data. Not only can document shredding help prevent identity theft, but it can also reduce the buildup of paper products in your home or office. This is important because paper buildup can lead to decreased productivity and is a fire risk.
